The objective of this project is to enhance the usability and visual appeal of the Topbeat Student Portal, ensuring it aligns with user expectations and supports the brand’s mission of delivering an exceptional music-learning experience. This initiative focuses on optimizing task flows, improving user experience (UX), and creating a modern, engaging user interface (UI) for students, parents, and educators.

Evaluate the portal based on established usability heuristics.
Identify pain points across sections like Home, Curriculum, Calendar, Class Notes, and Session Booking.
Streamline task flows to reduce cognitive load and enhance user efficiency.

Enhance engagement with clear visual and functional hierarchies.
Add flexibility by incorporating features such as progress tracking, personalized content, and real-time feedback.

The design process for the Topbeat Student Portal was strategically crafted to align with the client’s objectives of optimizing usability, improving the user experience, and creating a visually engaging interface. It began with discovery and requirement gathering, followed by heuristic evaluation and user research. The team then moved to ideation and wireframing, followed by creating high-fidelity prototypes tested with focus groups. The UI design phase focused on a cohesive design system with responsive layouts. The project concluded with implementation and post-launch feedback for further enhancements. The result was a scalable, user-centered solution.
Insights
Leading the redesign of the Topbeat Student Portal with a team of three talented junior designers was an enriching experience. As the project lead, I guided the team through every phase, from understanding the client’s vision to delivering a user-focused, scalable solution. The project required balancing the diverse needs of students, parents, and educators while addressing the existing portal's usability challenges.
Leveraging a no-code platform added an exciting challenge, requiring creative solutions within its constraints. Collaborating with stakeholders ensured clear communication and alignment with the client’s goals. The iterative design and testing phases also served as a great opportunity for mentorship, guiding my junior designers.
Despite the challenges, I’m incredibly proud of the outcome. The redesigned portal not only aligns with the client’s vision but also provides a seamless, engaging user experience. This project exemplifies the power of collaboration, strategic thinking, and team growth in achieving exceptional results.
